LOSING JESUS Luke 2:40-49 (Part Two)

Bible Study for February 2026

II. Can lose Jesus by lack of passion for souls:

A. “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30

B. “Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the _______________ forever and ever.” Daniel 12:3

C. “Then He said to them, ‘The harvest is truly great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send our laborers into His harvest.” Luke 10:2

D. “Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest?’ Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already ______________ for the harvest!” John 4:35

E. “And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”  John 4:36-38

F. “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Galatians 6:9

III. Can lose Jesus by having only a form of Godliness. Church without power of the Holy Spirit has no message:

A. “Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. Acts 12:5

B. “Now behold and angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light show in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, ‘Arise quickly!’ And his _______________ fell off his hands.” Acts 12:7

C. “And when Peter had come to himself, he said, ‘Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people.” Acts 12:11

D. “But the word of God grew and multiplied.” Acts 12:24

E. Cannot produce revival:

a. “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be __________________ to You.” Psalms 51:12-13

b. “Restore us, O God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!” Psalm 80:7

c. “Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?” Psalm 85:6

d. “Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a __________________ field, and the fruitful field is counted as a forest. Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field.” Isaiah 32:15-16

Joseph and Mary lost Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:43) He can be lost in the church.

V. Can lose Jesus by a poor spiritual appetite:

Appetite=Joy of Salvation (Psalm 51-12) Strongest in those who “hunger and thirst”. Soul hunger will employ righteousness and the filling of the Holy Spirit.

A. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6

VI. Can lose Jesus by lack of love:

Love is the strongest sustaining power. Brings unity by binding God’s people into one. Love imitates God:

A. “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children, And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a _______________________ to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” Ephesians 5:1-2

B. “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love, does not know God, for God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8

C. Love speaks one language:

a. “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek his own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

b. “If someone says ‘I love God’ and hates his brother, he is a _______________; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?” 1 John 4:20

When you realize you’ve lost Jesus, do what Mary and Joseph did. Luke 2:45

I. How can we lose Jesus? By failing to pray:

c. “And this is eternal life, that they may know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:3

d. “He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed saying, ‘O My Father, if it is _______________, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.’” Matthew 26:39

e. “Then Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they do.’” Luke 23:34

C. Prayerlessness:

a. “As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before the Lord our God, that we might turn from our __________________ and understand Your truth.” Daniel 9:13

b. “Watch and pray, lest you enter into ______________________. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41

c. “Then He spoke a parable to them, that mean always ought to pray and not lose _____________ …” Luke 18:1

D. Prayer is power:

a. “Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with ____________________ which cannot be uttered.” Romans 8:26

b. “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” James 5:13-14

c. “And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has ________________sins, he will be forgiven.” James 5:15

a. “Confess your _________________ to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16

“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most hoy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,…” Jude 20

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit (Pt One)

New Bible study for August 2025

1. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” Jn 14:15-18

Many would say that the book “The Acts of the Apostles” would be more rightly named “The Acts of the Holy Spirit”, as it traces many of the events that took place by and through the arrival of the Spirit of God as promised by Jesus and Old Testament prophesy. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to ______________ all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.” Matt 28:18-19
